"Strong in the Real Way"

Music & Lyrics: Rebecca Sugar

Instrumental Arrangement & Piano: Aivi & Surasshu

Vocals: Deedee Magno Hall, Zach Callison

Guitar: Grant “Stemage” Henry

Drums: Roger “Rekcahdam” Hicks

We loved arranging “Strong in the Real Way” - thank you Rebecca for being our “rock”! There are several people who helped bring this song to life. What you’re hearing is the result of Rebecca’s amazing songwriting, Grant’s blazing guitar playing, Roger’s fierce drum fills, and Deedee and Zach’s inspiring vocals! (I played the piano and synths.) Thank you everyone for your amazing performances!!

everybody’s performances are amazing as aivi said, but i’ll gush about my partner for a second here: aivi’s piano on this is amazing! she played in a disney style during pearl’s part, and totally switches it up to a rockin’ style on the steven part! it’s SO cool :D

Ask yourself, “Is it 6:30?” If the answer is yes, TUNE INTO CARTOON NETWORK AND WATCH STEVEN UNIVERSE!!!!

listnopetag said: Where did you find your inspiration for Here's How? Obviously there's some old saloon-y piano but WHERE did you find the inspiration?

waltzforluma:

One of our major influences for “Here’s How!" was electro-swing music, especially Caravan Palace. We also drew inspiration from musical styles like gypsy jazz and ragtime.

For the longest time, our working title for the song was “Sidecar” - the prohibition-era cocktail (and motorcycle attachment!) The name didn’t feel completely right, so we kept searching for inspiration until we discovered a cocktail recipe book from the 1940’s called “Here’s How: Mixed Drinks”. “Here’s How!” really stuck with us as a cute and sassy name for a cute and sassy song!

Here’s a writeup by aivi of our inspirations for Here’s How on the Black Box!

On this day, World Cat Day, Ubiktune has uploaded our debut album “The Black Box” to Soundcloud! If you haven’t heard it already, please check it out and feel free to download it from our Bandcamp too (it’s free)! I feel like I want to write a little something about the songs, so I might do that later…

Text 2 Aug 9 notes advice to aspiring musicians etc.

my advice for budding musicians (and probably also artists/game devs/writers/etc., peripherally):

1) make the music (or art/etc.) you want to be known for, and become known for it: put it out whereever you can (youtube, soundcloud)

2) become friends w/ others that are talented and ambitious (and don’t think of them as stepping stones to success or w/e, that is awful)

3) when a job arises, is it a thing you want to be known for? if so, MAKE SURE you get it. if not, adjust price so it’s “worth it”

4) study and improve, don’t “rest”. BUT ALSO appreciate your work and be aware of your progess (listen to old work if you doubt this)

also, you have to be a little lucky… but this way you give yourself as many opportunities to be lucky as possible!

Hey guys! I’ve been doing SFX and music on this game called Fistful of Gun for a while with amazing guerilla developer @farmergnome, it’s an arcade 2D multiplayer shooter with a wild west twist and an amazing roster of characters that all have their own unique control scheme. Anyway after years of labor it’s about to come out, and before that it’ll be playable at PAX. For now, check out this video!
